I did know know about Herzog's grandfather. Interesting. Herzog clearly has a love for Antiquity. He is the faint echo of a different education system and even worldview. Of course, there are many Classicists still around and there is still a reading audience. But professional people outside of these studies have had very little direct educational exposure to Antiquity. Have we Greeks lost something because of that? Definitely. Has humanity lost something because of that? I am not so sure.
